Beyond the diet: What you’re not being told

I want to bring to your attention a serious issue that affects millions of women who are focused on diet and nutrition as a way to improve their thyroid and hormone health.

While nutrition has certainly proven to be an important part of your health, it is not the most important aspect.

Instead, watch this week’s video to discover if you identify as an empowered leader of your health.

This framework helps you identify your current approach to reaching optimal health.

Are you an empowered health leader, a motivated health seeker, an emerging health seeker or a passive health reactor?

Showing up as a passive health reactor leaves you on a trajectory of unwanted symptoms, and declining health, and on the path to becoming one of 80% of women who are diagnosed with 2 or more chronic diseases by the time you are 65 years old.

Unfortunately, following the trend…thinking and doing what everyone around you is thinking and doing will create a healthy future just like everyone else.

The scary part is, only 3% of Americans are on track to be healthy, happy, and stay that way according to the Mayo Clinic Proceedings report.

So, my question to you this week is which of these best describes your current approach to health?

  1. Empowered Health Leader (Symptom-Free and Confident in Long-Term Health)

    • You FINALLY understand what your body needs to experience peak physical, mental, and spiritual performance

    • You have more energy and mental clarity than you did 5-10 years ago

    • You are in love with your body and are active daily

    • You are delighted with your body’s size and shape and feel confident

    • You enjoy food freedom and choose a balance of nutrient-dense foods that support your long-term health without feeling deprived

    • You are creating a ripple effect and positively influencing loved ones by your example or modeling vibrant health

    • You enjoy 25% greater income because of proactive health savings and maximum earning power

    • You have experiential evidence of health transformation which leaves you confident in your long-term health future

  2. Emerging Health Leader (4 or fewer symptoms on occasion)

    • You know your health improves when you are intentional and have results to prove it

    • People who know you are inspired and notice your healthy lifestyle choices

    • You often experience consistent energy levels and restorative sleep

    • You enjoy being active and are free from bodily aches and pains

    • You are content with your weight

    • You know what foods and nutrients support your optimized health and only feel partially restricted in choice

    • You love to go all in and are ready for next-level upgrades to your health routine...excited to see what is possible!

    • You are happy to experience a reduction in expenses associated with medical and health interventions and/or missed career opportunities

  3. Motivated Health Seeker (More than 10 symptoms – some chronic and some occasional)

    • You know you want to feel better and are ready to take action

    • You feel frustrated because you’ve tried diets, cleanses, workout programs, and/or supplements and medications but still feel crummy

    • You’ve received a diagnosis or have been told everything is “fine” but it’s not

    • You feel shame and frustration at the disparity between how you want your health to be and how it IS

    • You are ready to get beneficial lab work and realize it’s time to pay attention

    • At least 2x/week you criticize yourself for not following through on a healthy choice

    • You are not as active as you would like to be

    • You are not sure what to eat, how much, or why you can’t optimize your metabolism

    • Your health is costing you $$ on Drs. appointments, medication, treatments, lost income opportunities, oversized clothing, etc. and this will continue and potentially increase if things continue in this direction

  4. Passive Health Reactor (Have between 4-10 symptoms)

    • When you reflect on your health you feel ‘fine’

    • You schedule annual Dr. appointments and have lab work, however, don’t know what this information means and will likely not have advanced warning of the development of chronic disease (cancer, cardiovascular disease, diabetes, immune, etc.) until you are diagnosed with it

    • You are intentional with your food some of the time but generally have a love/hate relationship with food

    • You don’t give much time or attention to your health

    • You would like to feel more confident in your body, proud of your appearance, and energetic but it seems too hard

    • You believe fantastic health is either impossible or too hard to achieve

    • It’s easier to disassociate or share your health frustrations with friends than it is to change it...after all most women my age can relate!

Trust me, there is no judgment, as I have been at all of these stages throughout my health journey.

The most important question is where are you now and where do you want to be in the next 6-12 months?

The interesting thing is that while some women are currently experiencing fewer unwanted symptoms and living as a passive health reactor…

…that stage is a more precarious place to be than a woman who is motivated, aware, and ready for change.
